Pine Knoll Construction Gives Back: Rebuilding Safe Shooting Berms at the Izaak Walton League

For over 35 years, we’ve been proud to serve the Winchester, VA area, and projects like our recent work with the Izaak Walton League Winchester Chapter remind us why we love this community so much.
About the Izaak Walton League
The Izaak Walton League is a national conservation organization dedicated to protecting wildlife, land, and water resources while promoting safe outdoor recreation. Locally in Winchester, their chapter offers a wide range of family-friendly activities including camping, fishing, archery, and a full shooting range used by scouts, 4-H groups, Trail Life, and everyday community members.
Our Contribution to the Range: Grading and Site Work
When the club needed to rebuild their shooting range backstops, Jeff Jenkins and the Pine Knoll team stepped up. Our trucking team donated a couple loads of shale and fill dirt. We then used our skid steer to grade the berms and our crew gave the old berms a proper refresh at multiple distances: 7-yard, 15-yard, 25-yard, 50-yard, and 100-yard.
In addition to the berms, we cleared years of overgrown brush and small trees that had taken over the area. As a final touch, Jeff personally filled all the potholes on the gravel access road so members could get back to the range safely and comfortably.
Why Safety Matters
These berms serve as critical backstops that safely contain bullets and prevent them from traveling beyond the range. With homes located behind the property, the upgraded berms provide essential protection for neighboring properties and anyone enjoying the outdoors nearby.
