Clarke County Fairgrounds

The Challenge

The Clarke County Fairgrounds needed a better way to serve the community during events. When rain hits or the summer sun beats down hard, spectators in the bleachers had no real protection. They wanted a sturdy canopy right over the seating area to keep everyone comfortable and allow the grounds to host more events year-round without weather shutting things down.

Our Approach

We’ve been getting big jobs done right across the Shenandoah Valley, Northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland for more than 35 years. This community project was no different. We showed up on time, handled everything from excavation to completion, and treated the fairgrounds like it was our own backyard. Just good old boys pouring strong foundations and building something that will last.

What We Delivered

  • Heavy-duty footer installation – We poured massive, rebar-reinforced concrete footers designed to handle serious load for decades to come. They turned out clean, level, and built like a tank.
  • Crane-assisted canopy construction – Once the footers cured, we brought in the crane and set the full canopy structure precisely where it needed to go.
  • Complete project from start to finish – Full excavation, precise forming and pouring, structural placement, and final cleanup. The fairgrounds crew never had to lift a finger.
  • Community-focused improvement – A strong, well-built canopy that gives spectators reliable shelter from rain and blazing summer heat while they enjoy the shows.

The Results

The finished product for the Clarke County Fairgrounds, ready for a future filled with better serving the community.

The new canopy is now complete and ready for the season. Fairgoers will stay drier when storms roll through and cooler when the sun is beating down. The Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds has a tougher, more usable facility that better serves the entire community. (Oh and it looks pretty sharp too) We’re proud to have played a part in improving a place that brings so many local families together for a good time.

Hear from the Customer

Brad Broy, the president of the Ruritan Club for Clarke County Fairgrounds, graciously shared his thoughts on how this project turned out and how this canopy has already started to better serve the community that we all are so honored to be a part of.

Why This Project is Special for Pine Knoll Construction

This project has been extra special for us at Pine Knoll, specifically the founding duo of Jeff and Garland Jenkins. Garland built a small shelter as an announcing booth for the Clarke County Fairgrounds over 60 years ago! Now Jeff Jenkins is back here again building another important building for the community that will live to see another lifetime of value for the community. This truly marks a full circle moment for the Pine Knoll Construction team.

If you want to hear more about this special story, watch this video where Garland dives into his horse racing career and the story behind the building here at the grounds.
